Wearable arts 2016

The 11th Wearable Arts extravaganza

The 2016 wearable arts extravaganza run by the Norfolk Island Community arts society was again another WOW event!

Lots of oohing and aahing at our local talented designers and models. Plus the very beautiful Baunti Beauti's.

The show began with our friend Hanu crooning the audience beautifully!
The Compares with the mostest Teddy and Rose run the show seamlessly as ever. They have been doing this together for many, many years.

CATEGORY THEMES

STUDENT DESIGNERS ~ ENCHANTED FOREST
(MUST BE SCHOOL AGE  TO YEAR 12)

RECYCLED (Must be made from 85% recycled materials)

DREAMSCAPE~ YOUR PERFECT DREAM OR WORST NIGHTMARE

NATURAL FIBRE (must be made from at least 75% natural fibres)

EXTRAVAGANT OPEN~  METALLIC BRILLIANCE

This year Teddy made 3 (out of his 5 planned) entries.

1. Fantasy Fairy (Students Enchanted Forest theme)

2. The wise young Owl (Students Enchanted Forest theme)

3. The Dreamfish (worst nightmare theme, inspired by Neil on the Norfolk Island episode of 'Coast' who ate a hallucinogenic dream fish or 'nanwe' and had psychotic nightmares)

He won runner up student designer for his enchanted fairy and best male model. Pretty fantastic for a 12 year old boy.

The grand poobah winner of the night was my friend Rose's Mum, Wendy Hartmann.
Wendy made these two outfits on the Sunshine coast and flew over with them. They were wonderfully creative!
Lovely & kind Wendy used her main prize winning funds to take all the other designers and her models out for afternoon tea and the Olive cafĂ© yesterday afternoon. What a lovely gesture.

Congratulations to Tasmyn and Savannah who won the peoples choice award for their 'tea party'
See you all next year.
What will you make???
