at this time of year, there are soooo many. Citrus rocks!.




M is also for MINISCHOOL. My beloved preschool that I live and breathe 24/7 (the venue, the children, the fun).

O is for OCEAN

Norfolk Island is surrounded by the South Pacific. It has brought the original occupant via boat, the Polynesians, the first and second convict settlement and the Pitcairn Islanders on the Morayshire.
Today the salty ocean air can be breathed in as a way of relaxing, it provides fish for dinner, surfing, swimming and outrigging as a recreational sport. The ocean regulates our beautiful temperatures here, brings our supplies via ship.... but the best reason of ...all is that you can stand on top of the mountain and see the sun rise and the sun set over the ocean all in one day!

'J' is for JUMPING off the raft!

This is a rite of passage that children aim for here on ‪#‎norfolkisland‬, to swim to and jump off the raft with friends and family.
It is mid winter here, so we are looking forward to ‪#‎summer‬ again.

Not just for the kids, there are some very silly adults too :)

 

K is for KINGSTON

Kingston is the main convict settlement area and where our best beaches are.

It is also called daun a taun (down town) by the locals.

There are so many other occupations at Kingston also. Our administration buildings are there, the cemetery, the gold course, the pier and museums. For fun there is a surfing and snorkelling reef, football/ cricket grounds, walking tracks and dog beach, all surrounded around the most beautifully restored Georgian buildings.

 

L is for Lemons
I know the Norfolk Island bush lemons look hooey hooey/ hui hui (ugly, dirty, rotten) but they have such amazing flavours.
Brandt and I go through tons of lemons as they are so good for you. WE would need dozens of trees to keep up with us.


This is my no fail lemon butter recipe I have been using... goes quickly in this house. Unreal in unsweetened greek or coconut yoghurt.

D is for Dandelion
These dandelion clocks provide so much fun for myself and my children.
Some see a weed, but we see a wish.

E is for Emily bay.
It had to be!
From the salthouse to the raft to lone pine above and below the crystal clear waters, Emily bay is iconic to ‪#‎norfolkisland‬

Day 6- The letter F.
I asked the children to help me think of something on Norfolk Island that started with the Letter F... they all came up with great suggestions and different from what I was expecting them to say.
Flag, Fish and Frangipani Flowers.

Sienna said flag, Teddy told me fish (I had to clarify the tropical fish that swim in Emily bay or the ocean fish that are caught for a fish fry) and Jasper told me frangipani flowers. I wanted to put this photo in of fairy lights at Wonderland that we went to that night... so here it is.

A is for A is for Araucaria heterophylla (also known as the Norfolk Island Pine)



B is for Boats
Because we are surrounded by water, Norfolk Island relies on boats for fishing, transport and for all important shipping.
These lighters are used for transporting goods from the shipping boats to the pier. If a truck or bus is being transported, they tie two together.
‪‬

C is for Cows and Chooks.
These are everywhere on our roadsides.
Cows have right of way on our roads. The Chickens are feral, but still beautiful and still part of Norfolk's scenery.

This month's list intrigued me and with all the uncertainty here on Norfolk Island at the moment, I thought it would be great to do the challenge based on amazing Norfolk Island.
